Guerra & Gonzales front runners in County Judge Race
      All five candidates for Willacy County Judge had their supporters and 3,342 voters cast ballots in the race which will be decided in an April runoff between Aurelio "Keter" Guerra, Jr. and John Gonzales, Jr.

Kenedy County Democrats go for Bud Turcotte III for county judge
     Kenedy County may have more cows than voters but that doesn't mean they don't turn out at election time. Tuesday Democrats gave 127 votes (58.80%) to Louis E. "Bud" Turcotte III for county judge. Enemorio "Nito" Serna had 49 votes and Church Burns trailed with 40 votes. There were 216 votes cast in the race.

Candidate’s wife collapses, taken to the hospital
      Sandra Cavazos Salinas, wife of candidate for Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Juan Salinas, collapsed while campaigning for her husband Tuesday afternoon in Sebastian. She is in very serious condition in Valley Baptist Medical Center, Harlingen, and is believed to be suffering from a stroke.

Willacy Republicans give support to Rick Perry
      A total of 99 votes were cast by Willacy County Republ-icans Tuesday in their primary election. For governor Rick Perry got 60 votes, Kay Bailey Hutchison got 23 votes and Debra Medina got 15 votes. William Willie Vaden got 28 votes in his race against three other candidates.

Tara Rios-Ybarra wins big in Willacy but loses race to J.M. Lozano
     Tara Rios-Ybarra carried Cameron and Willacy Counties but was beaten badly in Brooks, Jim Hogg and Kleburg counties. In Willacy Rios-Ybarra had 1,947 votes to 1,232 for J. M. Lozano. But the total votes district wide in the six counties she serves were a different story.

Perry wins without a runoff over Hutchison
      Republican Texas Governor Rick Perry has won his party's nomination without a runoff. At 2 a.m. today, with 97.63% of the votes counted, Perry led with 748,525 votes. Kay Bailey Hutchison was second with 445,394 votes and Debra Medina had 272,424 votes. Perry had 51.08% percent of the votes cast, thus avoiding a runoff with Hutchison.

White is the Democrat nominee for governor
      Democrat Bill White, the former mayor of Houston, led the primary race for governor with 513,548 votes with 99.53% of the votes counted. White had 76.20 percent of the votes cast. Second place went to Farouk Shami with 85,560 votes. There were a total of seven candidates. A total of 673,878 votes were cast by Democrats, 5.17 percent of Texas 13 million voters.

Cotton futures on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) took a breather Wednesday after rallying for more than two weeks as profit taking pushed prices lower in consolidation. The modest retreat, however, was short-lived as futures prices soared to their highest levels in almost two years on Thursday.
