      After a week of trading lower, cotton futures prices on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) pushed to new highs on the heels of a strong export sales report, stronger U.S. monthly consumption figures, and firmer outside markets. The combination of the three was enough to push cotton above resistance that had gathered in the 85 cent area.

Wash. apple growers expect new tariff to hurt
      YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Washington apple growers are going to take an estimated $44 million hit this year from a new Mexican tariff, another chapter in an ongoing trade dispute that has already hurt cherry and pear growers. The 20 percent tariff took effect Thursday and affects all U.S. fresh apple sales to this states largest export market.

TPWD sets waterfowl seasons; outlook bright
      SAN ANTONIO - The stage is set for what could be one of the better waterfowl hunting seasons in recent years and Texas hunters will be able to take full advantage with a 74-day season and six bird daily bag limit. The 2010-11 late season migratory proposal was finalized by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission at its Aug. 26 public meeting.

Dove season ushers in fall hunting with a bang
      Texas hunters can anticipate good numbers of dove as ample rainfall across most of the state has set the stage for the Sept. 1 season opener, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Timely rainfall usually equates to above average dove production, and by all field accounts from TPWD wildlife biologists, this year is shaping up to produce a boom crop of birds.
