Floods in Mexico isolate thousands, leave them with little food
      VILLAHERMOSA, Mexico (AP) - Authorities worked early Monday to deliver badly needed food and water to thousands of residents stranded by devastating floods that have damaged the homes of up to 500,000 people. Since swollen rivers first broke their banks on Oct. 28, flood waters have isolated many Gulf coast communities.

Researchers say mythical, bloodsucking 'chupacabra' in Texas is just a coyote
      SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) - The results are in: The ugly, bigeared animal found this summer in southern Texas is not the mythical, bloodsucking chupacabra. It's just a plain old coyote. Biologists at Texas State University announced Thursday night they had identified the hairless doglike creature.

Bearkats capture district 31-3A title 24-20 over Zapata
      With 7:33 left in the fourth quarter, Zapata's QB #2 took the ball and raced untouched for 35 yards to the 1 ft. line, Bearkats' end of the field. This play was indicative of the type of game the Bearkats had to play to dethrone the reigning district champs, Zapata Hawks.

Audit shows hurricane relief funds largely unspent
      AUSTIN - Now the public has information about what's been happening with federal funding Texas received to help recover from hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. The State Auditor's Office on Nov. 1 released a report showing that most of the $523.7 million in disaster funding received by Texas has not been spent.

White says he did not endorse candidate in Navigation District election
      Terry White called the Chronicle/ News office on Oct. 31 to say that he did not authorize a candidate for the Willacy County Navigation District board to use his name in connection with his candidacy. "I told him that I planned to vote for the best qualified candidate in the election, I did not tell him that I intended to vote for him," White said.

Veterans to be honored this week for service to their country
Lyford & Raymondville school districts to host events
      Over a dozen local veterans will receive special recognition on Thursday and Friday at local schools, and one Vietnam War veteran will be receiving a Purple Heart Medal. Raymondville ISD's ceremony kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Burnett Stadium, according to RHS Principal Gilbert Galvan.

Memorial in Alabama honors fallen heroes in war on terror
      MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Bob Riley on Tuesday will unveil a memorial wall that honors 92 members of military services from Alabama who have died in the war on terror. The "fallen heroes" memorial, commissioned by Riley, is eight feet tall and 10 feet wide. It will be displayed in the chamber on the Capitol's first floor that used to house the Alabama Supreme Court.

Richardson rolls out $15 billion veterans care plan
      DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson has rolled out a $15.5 billion plan for military veterans that includes cutting their income taxes, giving them a health care card to access private care and expanding education benefits.
