CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) - A fight between rival drug gangs in a northern Mexico prison left one person dead and another 25 injured, officials said Thursday.
The fight in the Ciudad Juarez prison began at midday Thursday and 600 police offic- ers still hadn't brought it under control more than seven hours later, said Jaime Torres Valadez, a spokesman for the government of Ciudad Juarez, which is across the border from El Paso, Texas.
Torres Valadez said officers hadn't been able to gain full access
to the prison and re-establish order because the prisoners had at least one assault rifle, as well as gasoline bombs and other weapons.
Officials had managed to rescue 25 injured people and take them to a hospital, he said.
