ANDY VELIZ RELEASES NEW CD
Andy Veliz Andy Veliz singer, composer and recording artist released his latest CD entitled "Through The Years" this week. This is his 3rd CD and before that he released 7 single 45 rpm recordr in the 80s and one full length cassette.
Veliz, from Weslaco has been in the recording business for many years. It was in 1980 when he recorded his first state-wide record hit, "Lonely Nights Without You". Veliz wrote both words and music for Lonely Nights Without You.
Joe A. Leal, Veliz' manager from Weslaco was the first producer of his state-wide hit record in 1980 and Veliz credits Leal for his efforts in getting his record on the airwaves. Veliz also states that Leal was the drivingforce behind his initial recording career.
While he has had success in the recording industry, he is also remembered for his career in the Education field. He was a principal in Weslaco ISD when he attained his first hit in the 80's. He retired from Donna ISD in 2001 where he was an administrator, also served as Attendance Coordinator for the district.
Upon his retirement he began his college teaching career at The University of Texas-Pan American where he works at the College of Education, Office of Field Experiences.
Originally from Willacy County, Veliz is remembered as the young singer who sang at the "Moulton Ty Cobb" show which aired in KRGV TV Channel 5. Veliz sang on the live weekly TV show since he was 10 years old and continued to sing in the show until he went off to college. Veliz is a 1961 graduate of Lyford High School.
Veliz has degrees from Texas A&M University in Education and a Masters Degree from The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Educational Administration.
Veliz is also involved in the city of Weslaco, where he has served on the Board of Appeals and Adjustments of Zoning for 25 years.
Veliz is married to Thelma E. Veliz, who is from San Diego, Texas. They have a daughter Sheree who is married to Carlos Gonzalez from McAllen. The Veliz' grandchildren are Patrick Andres and baby Evie Rose Gonzalez.
