LETTER TO THE EDITOR
I wonder where the politicians get the arrogance and gall to ignore the rights of property owners and their property. Nothing gives politicians the right to arbitrarily place political signs on other people's property. I strongly oppose and protest this practice. I like having control over the property that I own and pay taxes on! The only signs that should be there are the ones who ask for permission and got it.
I don't support Sheriff Spence or Juan Guerra; the Willacy County free loaders, living off the fat of the land. It's too late for them to start doing their job. At least Juan Guerra respects my right to keep his signs off my property!
Over the past few years there have been numerous beer runs at my stores, attempted break-ins, broken windows, graffiti and other acts of vandalism. Some of the criminals have been identified on video, some have been caught and let go, there has been no punishment, no restitution. All I get is a deputies' card with a case number.
I'm tired of hearing, "Let sleeping dogs lie", "Don't make waves," "Don't rock the boat," "You got to go along to get along."
Folks don't wait to become a victim, vote to get those two derelicts out!

Editors Note: Sheriff Larry Spence said that he apparently did post two signs on Mr. Dario Villegas's properties. One at the old Sebastian laundromat, but only after he got permission from a store clerk at Villegas's Ana's Superette across the street. The other sign was posted on a vacant lot across from the Casa Blanca, that Spence thought was owned by Dr. George Cantu and not Mr. Villegas. Spence said he would willingly take both signs down, and has since called Mr. Villegas to apologize.
