Leap year- an extra 24 hours
By Larry G. Spence

Have you ever felt the week was just too long? I think we've all had those kind of weeks. Sometimes, some of them even run together for two or three long weeks. Have you ever thought the opposite? Have you ever said to yourself, "there are just not enough hours in the day, or in the week, to get everything done that needs to be done?" Well, if that's the case, this week is for you.

This week brings about that extra day, extra hours that we claim we need. It only happens once every four years though. This is what is known as leap year, which means February will have twenty-nine days instead of twenty-eight days.

Why do we have a leap year? I'm not really sure, but I believe it's supposed to have something to do with making up the difference between manmade years and those years that are called astronomical years. It's a little confusing to me, but all I know is that on paper at least, it appears I get a free 24 hours "to use as I see fit."

My "extra" 24 hours will in all likeihood be spent working, but how about yours? How will you spend your "extra day?" Will you put it to good use, or "waste it." Will you get your "things to do list" completed? Whatever we intend to do we need to make the most of it, just as we need to make the most of everyday God gives us. And that is not only at leap year, but all thoughout the year. For once our day is gone, it's gone forever, we can never get it back. Then before you realize it, we come to that time in our life when we run out of days, sometimes much earlier than we expect.

So I encourage you to use your hours and your days to finish your "things to do list," and then use the rest of the time to be a blessing to others. I can guarantee you, you will become a better person because of it.
