The Trojans and Lady Trojans both made the playoffs by finishing third in the district for the 2007 - 2008 season. The Lady Trojans played Prairie Lea in the bi-district in Orange Grove on Tuesday, February 12th and lost a close one 38 -34. The Ladies struggled throughout the first half, but found their rhythm and surged into the lead heading into the fourth quarter. A couple of key baskets and excellent free throw shooting by the Arrows sealed the Lady Trojans fate. The Trojans met Austwell-Tivoli in the Kingsville Academy gym on Tuesday, February 19 and lost in overtime 62 - 57 to the much larger Redfish. The Trojans put up a great fight and created many turnovers to give themselves a chance, but Tivoli's height advantage proved too much to overcome in the overtime. Freshman Aaron Herrera led all scorers with 22 points, Jonathan Willis added 15 points, and Rene Flores had 13 points in the losing effort. Senior Noel Quiroga finished his career with a 2 point effort, David Tanguma notched 2 points also, and Erwin Barrera had 1 point to round out the scoring.
Rene Flores and Jonathan Willis were honored by being selected 1st team all-district 32-A Division 2 for their efforts this season. Aaron Herrera was named to the second team and Christian Hernandez was honorable mention for his outstanding defense. Next season we will return 10 of the 11 varsity players and we have a strong incoming group of freshmen.
