THE GATEWAY people are always thinking of ideas to involve the residents in fun events. The 2nd annual Chili-Cook Off was held recently. People were asked to enter their favorite chili in the contest. Others paid admission to come in, eat and judge the chili. Seven men and thirteen women entered the contest which had the men against the women. Three men judged the women's chili, and three women judged the men's chili. After they chose their favorite chili, then all six judges tasted the top two pots and chose their favorite. The winners pictured were: Kendra Murdoch - 1st Place and Jim Crabtree - 2nd Place. Peoples Choice winners were: Sherry Foss - 1st Place, Marilyn Otto - 2nd Place, Belva Rutledge 3rd Place 184 participated in tasting chili. As they came through the door and paid they were given a baggie with a tasting cup, spoon, napkin, and a blank piece of paper to vote for the pot they liked best; then on to eat chili, hot dogs, nachos and drinks 31 people, including the judges, worked behind the scenes to make this a success. The attendance numbers were up from last year and we look forward to this becoming an annual event. June Crabtree was the organizer. The pictures show the winners and the tasting/judging line).
