Flores under investigation for plane trips
      AUSTIN (AP) - A Texas lawmaker is under criminal investigation over air travel he received from a beer distributor. Rep. Kino Flores' attorney confirmed the investigation Friday but didn't believe the Palmview Democrat violated any laws.

Tuskegee Airman of the Week: Oct. 27 - Nov. 2
      JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq -- Airman 1st Class Israel Garza is the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing's Tuskegee Airman of the Week for Oct. 27 to Nov. 2. Garza, a security forces journeyman with the 532nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron here, applied quick thinking and discipline to prevent a dangerous situation from becoming deadly.

Teen sentenced to 30 years for bank robberies
      AUSTIN(AP) - A 17-year-old boy was sentenced Monday to 30 years in prison after being convicted of two counts of aggravated robbery for robbing a bank twice in January. A jury found Charles Blackburn Jr. guilty last week of entering a Bank of America branch in Round Rock, an Austin suburb, on Jan. 10 and Jan. 30 with a BB gun and demanding cash.

Armadillos finding their way into southern Indiana
      BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - An animal common to southern states appears to be making its way into Indiana. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says four armadillos have been found dead in southern Indiana in recent years.

More than 20 slightly hurt in Bastrop school bus wreck
      BASTROP, Texas (AP) - At least 22 children suffered minor injuries when their Bastrop school bus went off a rain-slick road, into a ditch and hit a barbed-wire fence. The Bastrop High School students were transported to Austin-area hospitals following the wreck Monday morning.

Bulldogs bounced out by Sinton 48-14
      Last Friday night at sold-out Bulldog Stadium in Lyford, the Sinton Pirates 31-3A champions, bounced our Bulldogs out of the playoffs 48-14. It had been 39 years since the last time the 2008, Willacy Co. champs had hosted a playoff game. Lyford had made the playoffs many times since but had not played at home.

      NFL FLAG FOOTBALL is held every Saturday morning to early afternoon at the old Pony League Park, at the corner of 1st and Chihuahua. NFL football and cheetos money was funneled down to Raymondville, Sports Foundation from Pee-Wee flag football, 3 and 4 year olds and older.

2008 LYFORD HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING KING AND QUEEN
      Lyford High School held its annual Homecoming Royalty Coronation on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008. Noe Valdez and Analisa Gonzales were crowned Lyford High School Homecoming King and Queen. Noe is the son of Alma Gracia of Lyford. Noe is a member of the Varsity Bulldog Football team. Noe plans to attend Texas A&M University at Kingsville and major in Criminal Justice.

Supreme Court refuses to consider Brownsville murder appeal
      WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court declined last Monday to take an appeal from a woman convicted of using a fortuneteller to arrange the murder of a teen-ager who spurned her daughter. The court refused to take that Texas case and another one involving federal jurisdiction in murder-for- hire plots.
