Man pleads guilty to shooting at Border Patrol agent LAREDO, Texas (AP) A 25- year-old Mexican man has pleaded guilty to a firearms charge and assaulting a Border Patrol agent after he allegedly fired at a pair of agents in September. Bernardo Javier (3utierrez pleaded guilty in federal court on Friday and could face up to 30 years in prison for firing at two agents who tried to stop the truck in which he was riding. Two other men who were in the truck - Mario Alberto Garcia Jr., 19, and Manuel Alberto Santana, 19 pleaded guilty to being accessories after the fact and hindering and preventing Gutierrez's arrest. Both face up to 10 years in prison. Two Border Patrol agents went to an intersection in Rio Bravo on Sept. 13 after receiving a call about illegal immigrants crossing the Rio Grande nearby. (iutierrez fired at them, the agents said. They later found him at a house where the other men had dropped him off, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a release Monday. All three men are scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 17. |
