BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) A Mexican teenager living in South Texas has been sentenced to 99 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder of a police officer.
According to the Cameron County District Attorney's office, Abraham Mar, 19, of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, pleaded guilty to the charge last week for shooting a Harlingen police officer in June. The officer was critically wounded, but survived the attack.
A Cameron County jury sentenced Mar on Monday. Mar will also serve a two-year sentence concurrently for evading arrest. He was captured in Mexico, where he fled after shooting the officer during a traffic stop.
