SOUTH PADRE ISLAND - Michael Corbett, 58, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at his home in South Padre Island after a long battle with cancer.

He was born January 25, 1950 in Bryan, TX. He graduated from Raymondville High School in 1968 and from Sam Houston State University in 1972. For over 31 years he farmed and managed the family ranch West of Raymondville.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Corbett and grandparents, Dr. C.M. and Margaret Corbett and Orus and Lola Whitfield.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kathie; his daughter, Katie (Garett) Wheaton; his father, Dr. C.M. Corbett, Jr.; a sister, Anne (John) Austin; nephew, Corbett Austin, brother-in-law, Mike (Janice) Miller.

A private graveside service will be held at the family ranch. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute (CKWRI), c/o Ocelot Fund, MSC 218, TX A&M-Kingsville, Kingsville, TX 78363 and checks payable to "CKWRI, Texas A&MKingsville."
