Lyford Elementary holds 1st annual Mother/Daughter Dinner
"I would say the hugs and kisses are the best thing about being a mom." said Valerie Perez pictured with daughters Hannah and Rebecca Perez. What makes a good mom? How about feeding your daughters corn flakes for dinner or clothing them warmly during the winter cold fronts? At least these were the answers Lyford elementary girls gave during the 1st annual Lyford Elementary Mother/Daughter Dinner Thursday evening.
The event took place at the Gonzales Ballroom where over four hundred guests gathered. Special guest speaker was Judge Migdalia Lopez. Other speakers included thankful daughters and an inspiring mother of five.
Then there were the mothers at the tables who had the following to say.
What's the best thing about being a mom?
I would say all the hugs and kisses.
-Valerie Perez. Seeing my kids smile. Seeing them really enjoying themselves is so beautiful. I love to just sit back and watch them. - Shelly Rodriguez mother of 3
I work with E.M.S. That takes a lot of my time. My husband is about to be deployed to Iraq but family comes first. It takes a lot of work but we manage. - Claudia Figueroa, mother of 3 who held her reason for loving motherhood in her arms, daughter Eliana Figueroa.
"I liked this [event] cause it's so fancy and we get to wear fancy clothes." said 6 year old Andrea pictured with her mother Shelly Rodriguez and twin sister Alyanna. According to the guests the night was a success. "I like it cause it's so fancy and we get to wear fancy clothes." said Andrea Rodriguez. "It was a successful event. We gave mothers and daughters an opportunity to bond and the turn out was great!" said Counselor Chris Luna who played a major part in coordinating the event along with Counselor Claudia Gutierrez.
