Fracas At Boot Co. Political Event Bernard Ammerman, running for District Attorney and Gilbert Lozano, district clerk and Arturo Saenz supporter, had a heated discussion Saturday night resulting in an exchange of pushes. The short lived dispute took place at the Boot Co. Bar and Grill. The 'Meet The Candidate: Dr. Tara Rios Ybarra' event was held there and several consituents gathered to meet the public as well. "Everyone from Johnny Guerra, current D.A., Arturo Saenz, Bernard Ammerman and others were there." stated an onlooker. When contacted, Ammerman was ready and willing to address the happenings of the night. "It's simple. I respect the man but I don't think I should put up with someone pushing me."Ammerman went on to describe the event from his point of view. Ammerman said he stepped outside the Boot Co. searching for a Pastor who wanted voter registration information. He didn't find him but Gilbert Lozano was by his truck. Lozano called him over. "We began speaking about how we want Mr. Guerra out of office but things heated up when he said Saenz should win. I told Mr.Lozano, 'Being licensed doesn't mean he's more experienced. I do more criminal cases and jury trials than he does.' He must have gotten upset with my logic because he walked away and once near his truck he cursed at me" Ammerman said he cursed back at him and Lozano walked over and pushed Ammerman. "I told him not to touch me and pushed him back." "He got in a fighting stand but I didn't want to fight him. We aren't in high school." "Maybe I should have never cursed at him" Ammerman said repentively. "I saw Saenz in the court house and asked him to send my apologies for what did wrong to Mr. Lozano." "I don't want to file charges against him. There are bigger issues. I want to move forward" When contacted Arturo Saenz said the following, "went out of the restaurant. heard Ammerman say something and he was pushing Mr. Lozano. I stepped in between them and told them to stop it. It was ridiculous. It's a dead issue and we're moving forward." When Gilbert Lozanzo was reached for comments he said "Someone reacted in desperation. Ammerman approached Saenz at the courthouse and asked Mr.Saenz to convey his apologies to me. The issue is dead."
Sponsers of the event have verified that no alcohol was served.
