First-ever fire chief appointed by Kenedy County Commissioners
New volunteer fire department to start in January

      Kenedy County commissioners made Texas history on Monday when they appointed a fire chief for the only county in the state that did not have a volunteer fire department. Texas Forest Service officials were pleased with the commissioners action.

Kenedy County asks TX-DOT for 55 mph speed limit south of Sarita checkpoint
Commissioners petition governor for drought relief

      Kenedy County commissioners acted on a request from a windmill farm safety officer to request TX-DOT's approval of speed reduction for northbound U.S. Highway 77 traffic about 2-3 miles south of the Sarita ICE checkpoint. The reduction would be from 70 mph to 55 mph for a short stretch.
