Hurricane Update #6 - Dolly passes over Raymondville - Cleanup in progress

     Fifty-five to 60 percent of property owners in Willacy County received damage to their houses and/or businesses when Dolly hit the Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

      Hurricane Dolly was projected to hit the mouth of the Rio Grande River and Brownsville at about 7 a.m. this morning with projected winds at 75 mph. Dolly has been on a northwesterly track at about 9 mph, and has been gaining strength.

      Four Willacy County justice of the peace office holders descended upon the county's budget workshop on Monday afternoon to voice their vehement opposition to the concept of an office manager, that would have organized and made their operation more efficient, according to commissioners.

Port Mansfield fishing tournament first victim of Hurricane Dolly
Tournament and festivities moved to mid-August

      The Port Mansfield Chamber of Commerce decided on Monday to postpose their annual fishing tournament until mid-August due to unsafe weather conditions from Hurricane Dolly, which is projected to hit the Rio Grande Valley Wednesday.

      At press time Tuesday night it was unclear exactly when Hurricane Dolly would strike deep South Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. The Hurricane was expected to move onto land near the mouth of the Rio Grande River at Brownville, Wed. at 7 a.m.
