Lyford lowers property taxes - Employees to get modest 3% raise

      Lyford city commissioners voted unanimously to lower property taxes at Monday night's monthly meeting. The city's effective tax rate will decrease about two cents from 1.1192/per $100 of assessed value to 1.0963/per $100 of assessed value for the 2008/2009 tax year.

Former Raymondville ICE agent pleads guilty to theft

      A former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent has been convicted of theft of government property, according to U.S. Attorney Don DeGabrielle. Juan Enrique Polanco, 38, pleaded guilty to the federal felony charge today before U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen on Oct. 1st.
