The University of Texas System has officially established the Rogerio Cruz Garza Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Civil Engineering.

In a Dec. 19, 2008 letter written to Mrs. Sylvia Garza, Martha King director of Endowment Services said, This endowment created in Memory of your husband, will provide enduring support for the University and advance our core purpose: To transform lives for the benefit of society.

Rogerio C. Garza died at the age of 57 January 13, 2008. He was a graduate of the University of Texas School of Engineering in 1972 and was a civil engineer and senior consultant for Rimkus Consulting Group for 14 years. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia R. Garza, children Rogerio Marcel Garza, and Maritza Arina Garza, mother Delia Garza, brothers Gilbert Garza and Arturo Garza, sisters Beatrice Cantu, Elizabeth Gonzales, and Eunice Zambrano.

He was preceded in death by his father, Israel Garza.
