Letter to the Editor
Editor,
Several decades ago I moved my family to Willacy County to peruse a career and lifestyle change by becoming a fishing guide in Port Mansfield. Twenty-something years later it has proven to be a wise decision. Another decision I made back in the mid-eighties was which local physician should be our family doctor. We were referred to Dr. Allen Spence of Raymondiville but after a visit or two it became obvious that my family's needs would be better served elsewhere.
Our next choice was Dr. John Kristensen. Dr. Kristensen's impeccable credentials as well as his dry sense of humor sealed the deal. Now I hear the good Doctor is about to retire. We wish he could stay but also understand his interest in moving on. Our choice to replace him will be Dr. Smith as we have learned to trust him in Dr. Kristensen's absence.
One thing is crystal clear; after reading Dr. Spence's rambling, childish rant in this week's newspaper it sure won't be him! I suspect this whole President Obama thing is just to complicated for him to grasp. Sad, really, when you consider Dr. Spence has been treating President Obama's constituents for many years and still he thinks their choice should not be in the Whitehouse. It must be very difficult for him to treat people for whom he appears to have such a low regard. Sad, Indeed.
Walt Kittelberger Port Mansfield
Mr. Kittelberger,
How do you know who Dr. Spence's patients voted for? Have you been peeking?
I'm sure there are some who would like to celebrate the day you moved to Willacy County. If you will provide the exact day maybe we can have a parade and close the courthouse.
Your personal anecdote about choosing a local doctor doesn't have a lot of meaning. There are more than half a dozen practicing physicians in Raymondville and they all have patients.
Concerning Mr. Obama, there really isn't a lot to grasp. He is an opportunist who gained office through a number of unusual circumstances. Both of this opponents in U.S. Senate races, were disqualified by their personal scandals.
Mr. Obama began running for president as soon as he was elected to the Senate and ran on a ticket of "hope" and "change". His supporters are unable to name a single thing that he did to qualify himself for higher office.
Being a glib, fast talking Harvard lawyer was apparently enough to propel him to the front of the Democrat Party in 2008. And the collapse of the stock market in Oct. of the same year doomed John McCain and put Obama in the Whitehouse.
As far as his accomplishments as president in his first two months Mr. Obama doubled the national debt that took 232 years to accumulate. The Counci1 of Economic Advisors, U.S. Office of Management and Budget states that the $5.8 trillion debt left by George W. Bush in 2008 will be $12 trillion in 2019. The cost to every household in the U.S. will be $8,000 despite higher taxes.
We are aware that most Willacy County voters are Democrats and that party has been in control here since the begining, more than 100 years. We invite all local people to take a good look around and ask themselves, "What has the Democrat Party done for this county?"
Well, according to Wikipedia, Willacy County is the 12th poorest county in the United States with a per capita income of $9,421 and the third poorest county in Texas.
How's that for "hope" and" change?"
