Storm with 60 mph winds dumps 3 to 4 inches of rain Sunday night
      I was out of town this weekend and apparently I missed quite a storm on Sunday night. A McAllen resident who got a phone call about the storm walked out into his yard and looked to the northeast. "The storm was anvil shaped," he said and extended several thousand feet into the air.

DPS seize $258,156 from Matamoros resident
      A resident of Matamoros, Tamps., Mexico is out $258,156 after his recent visit to Texas. Cruz Dorado Delgado, of Ignacio Ramirez #139, Colonia Sec.16 was stopped by Texas Dept. of Public Safety Trooper Valente Rosas on Monday, May 11 as he drove his 1999 Lincoln Town Car southbound near the Cameron/ Willacy county line.

County tables request for bullet proof glass in window at J.P.'s offices
      A good part of the county meeting Tuesday was spent discussing a request for bullet proof glass in the justice of the peace building at West Hidalgo Ave. & South 4th St. Judge George Solis proposal was to spend $2,015 to install so-called bullet proof glass in the front office of the J.P. office building.

City making plans for big 4th of July celebration
      City commissioners began planning our 4th of July celebration at their meeting Tues. evening. Commissioners voted to spend $3,500 for a fireworks show, the same amount as last year and another $150 for tables and chair rentals.
