Statements posted in a article

To the Editor of the Raymondville Chronicle:

"In regards to the recent statements that were made regarding a supposed rivalry between the Raymondville Fire Department and Lyford Fire Department, the Lyford Fire Department would like to apologize for the statements made. The statements were made during a public meeting so that we could obtain permission to speak with either Chief Frank Torres or the County commissioners in regards to understanding the responsibilities of each Fire Department within Willacy County exclusively the boundaries of Lyford. Simply stated that were trying to follow a chain of command, THE STATEMENTS WERE BY NO MEANS DIRECTED TO ANYONE SPECIFIALLY nor did we intend for the statements to be posted as an article. We understand that citizens might be with a concern that there is a feud between the two departments but at neither this time nor any other said time do we have harsh feelings toward the Raymondville Fire Department, its Chiefs or firefighters. We will always remain with the concept that we work as one solid unit!"

With that being said we understand that our sole mission as a fire department is to protect the citizens, communities, and properties of Willacy County, as efficiently and effectively as possible. We would like for everyone to know that we will not hesitate to extend a helping hand to any pet, person, or department when needed. No matter if it is a holiday, or if it is two in the morning we will all remain available when duty calls!

Michael Birdsong

Lyford Volunteer Fire Dept.
