Incident under Internal Investigation
Officer fires at fleeing juvenile early Christmas morning
      Residents of the 400 block of Exchange Street were awakened early Christmas morning by the sounds of gunfire as a city police officer tried to stop a juvenile from fleeing the scene in a gray Lincoln Navigator. Police investigator Andres Maldonado identified the officer as patrolman Daniel Duran and described the incident as follows.

Local woman dies in Mission car crash
      Ruby Ruiz, 21, of Raymondville was killed in a one car crash on Dec. 22 in Mission. A passenger in her Ford Ranger pickup also died. He was identified as Jaime Santana Garcia, 22, of Edinburg.

      There are 8,998 public schools in Texas. In those public schools there are 4.6 million students and 310,000 teachers. Nationally, Texas is listed as #24 out of 50 for the "Smartest State" rankings. Unfortunately, these figures listed above have very little to do with Willacy County Schools.
