Near freezing lows expected Thurs. & Friday

Cold, wet weather is headed our way and temperatures in Raymondville could hit lows of 34 degrees on Thursday and Friday mornings. A high of 50 is predicted for Thursday but the high is expected to be only 38 on Friday.

This could be the lowest temperatures since 1997 accord-ing to the National Weather Service in Brownsville. Skies will be cloudy and there is a fifty percent chance of rain, or drizzle on Thursday.

"It will be a biting cold," said Barry Goldsmith, the NWS meteorogist. There is a chance parts of the Valley could see sleet and rain this week.

Local residents are advised to bring pets into the house when possible and to cover tender vegetation, or better yet, bring plants inside.

A hard freeze is not expected but no one would be surprised if temperatures dip even lower than predicted, perhaps as low as 28 degrees in Starr County and in Willacy.

According to J. P. George Solis the American Legion Hall will be available for families to take shelter from the cold.
