Family of slain Texas inmate reaches settlement
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - The family of a man beaten to death at a privately run south Texas lockup has settled for an undisclosed amount with the prison operator, warden and insurers.
Investigators say Gregorio de la Rosa was only days from being released from the Raymondville facility in 2001 when two inmates beat him to death with padlocks stuffed into socks. The 33-yearold inmate was serving a sixmonth sentence for drug possession.

A Texas appeals court in April upheld a $42.5 million civil verdict against Wackenhut Corrections Corp., now known as The GEO Group, and the warden, David Forrest.
The Brownsville Herald reported Friday that de la Rosa family attorney Ron Rodriguez confirms the agreement.
An attorney representing the Boca Raton, Fla.-based prison company did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
