EVERY TUESDAY AFTERNOON a group of 10-15 ladies at Gateway RV Park gather at the rec hall to make quilts for local charities. To date the group has donated 511 quilts to Child Protective Services of Willacy Co.; Family Crisis Center, Ronald McDonald House and Retama Nursing Home in Raymondville. These projects have been funded by holding a raffle each year during the craft show for a hand quilted quilt made by several of the Winter Texans. Besides quilts, the group has furnished a number of needed items to the Ronald McDonald House.

The quilt being raffled this year is a beautifully fashioned quilt titled, “The Christmas Rose.” The quilt design is shared between Marion Mayhew, Claudette Smith and Joy Evans with others helping with the quilting. A computerized label is attached to the back side of the quilt with the names of the quilters.

This year’s craft show will be held Thursday, February 4, starting at 8 a.m. with the drawing for the quilt to be at noon. Vendors with other crafts will be there along with a lunch served from 10:30-12:30. Raffle tickets will be available the day of the show.
