The Raymondville Bearkat Boys Powerlifting Team placed First in the 13th Annual Hidalgo Border Classic on Saturday where they competed against nine other schools and finished with a total of 43 points. Lifters that placed in their weight divisions were: Justin Duran 1st, Greg Juarez 1st, Joe Trevino 1st, Aaron Gonzales 1st, Carl Contreras 2nd, Joseph Zaragoza 3rd, Leonard Ramirez 3rd, Adrian Moncevais 4th, and Oscar Ramirez 4th.
Currently, Joe Trevino is ranked 1st in the State in the 275 lb. weight division with a total of 1735 lbs. Squat- 745 lbs. Bench- 405 lbs. Deadlift- 585 lbs.
Another Bearkat currently ranked 1st in the state is Justin Duran. Justin competes in the 198 lb. weight division and totals 1545 lbs. Squat- 615 lbs. Bench- 375 lbs. Deadlift- 555 lbs.
Also, the Girls Team placed 3rd in Hidalgo. Leading the charge was Kacee Pedraza who placed 1st in her weight division. In a different division Ana Perez placed 1st, followed by Ashley Tello with a 2nd place finish. The girls finished with 19 total team points.
The Bearkats will visit Port Isabel on February 13, 2010 for the next competition of the season.
