Deputy shoots man with knife, sheriff says
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a Chambers County deputy shot and killed a man who was attacking another man in front of a nursing home.
The deputy shot the man Friday afternoon in the community of Winnie, according to a report by KFDM News in Beaumont.
Sheriff Joe LaRive said two men were fighting while riding in a truck. They stopped the vehicle, and one man pulled out a knife and began stabbing the other man while chasing him along the side of the highway.
An off-duty deputy pulled up and demanded that the attacker drop the knife. The attacker lunged at the deputy, who opened fire, LaRive said. The 40-year-old stabbing victim was recovering at a hospital. Winnie is about 60 miles east of Houston.
