Methodists sending health kits to Haiti
HEALTH KITS FOR HAITI - Kay Lahr, Patty Flores, Wesley Nurse Angela Gonzalez, Rev. Janna Hawes and Shirley Urwiller gathered Monday to assemble Health Kits for Haiti.
Raymondville Methodists are gathering essential items such as soap and toothbrushes to help people who are in need. The health kits are being assembled and shipped to an UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) warehouse in Louisiana. From there, they are sent directly to Haiti, and other places where disasters have occurred.
“It is hard to imagine losing everything-- your home, even members of your family,” said the Rev. Janna Sandidge Hawes, pastor of First United Methodist Church. “We are asking people to help us send basic needs items to help God’s people who have lost so much.”
A group from FUMC gathered Monday, Feb. 1 to assemble 20 health kits. They hope to gather more supplies to continue assembling throughout February.
“Our goal is 100 health kits-- and we are asking for donations to help with this mission project,” Hawes explained.
The health kits include one hand towel, one washcloth, one large comb, fingernail clippers, bath-size bar of soap, one adult-size toothbrush and 6 band-aids or other adhesive plastic bandages.
“We will be gathering again on Monday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. to assemble more health kits,” the pastor said.
“We invite anyone who is interested in helping to come at that time, or to call us for information on how to donate.”
The church phone number is 689-3632, or to contact the pastor directly call 642-7548.
