District Judge Candidate Juan Guerra owes $ 10,998.48 in 2000 - 2008 property taxes
      The man who wants to replace 197th State District Judge Migdalia Lopez in the March 2 Democratic Primary election has some serious tax problems, the Chronicle/News has learned. Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP of Brownsville are the tax attorney for Willacy County, the Raymondville and Lyford school districts and the cities of Raymondville and Lyford.

Teen girl attempts suicide
      A 15-year-old girl tried to hang herself at noon on Feb. 7, according to police investigator David Robles. Robles said the girl was having problems at home and told her mother that she was going to hang herself at one of the old sheds on North Sixth Street.

Teen girl remains in county jail 3-weeks after graffiti at Myra Green Middle School & stadium
      Three of the four teens who vandalized the new Myra Green Middle School and the high school football stadium have been bonded out of custody. Three of the four who spray painted the school causing $25,000 in damages are girls. Of those a boy and a girl were ruled juveniles and were released to their parents after a short stay in the Darrell Hester juvenile facility in Harlingen.

200 vote in first day of early voting
      Business was brisk at the early voting office in the old county sheriff’s office on West Main Street. At the end of the day 200 votes had been cast in the races to elect local and state wide officials. Early voting goes on the rest of this week and next week before election day on March 2.

North Carolina company planning to build Wind Farm east of Sebastian
      Duke Energy Company of Charlotte, North Carolina, is planning to build a 300 megawatt wind farm east of Sebastian in southeastern Willacy County. The firm has done a feasibility study and is now attempting to secure leases from property owners in the area.

Taking a breather from the week’s rally, cotton futures prices on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) ended the session mostly higher on Thursday. The rally began on Monday as cotton futures bounced back from 16-week lows.
