898 cast ballots in Willacy early voting
Despite chilly, wet weather interest in the Democrat and Republican primary election remains high with 898 votes already cast and three days to go in early voting.
Election Day is March 2 and those who are waiting for warm weather may have to wait until then to vote for their favorite candidates.
For County Judge five candidates are seeking voter approval. They are John Gonzales, Jr.; Annette Hinojosa; Emilio "Jr" Vera; Eloy Castaneda and Aurelio (Keter) Guerra, Jr.
For County Commissioner Pct. 2 Noe Loya and Thomas "Tommie" Rains are the candidates.
For County Commissioner Pct. 4 Oscar Garcia, Jr., Hilarlo "Larry" Rincones and Dora Perez are the candidates.
For Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Jesus Rene Coy; Apolinar "Polo" Gracida; Roy Hernandez; Joel Juarez; and Yesenia Rosas will battle it out for a spot in the runoff.
For Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Juan Silva and Zack Gonzales are the candidates.
For Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 Juan Salinas, Cynthia Guajardo; and Joel Robles are battling for the job.
For Constable Pct. 5 Leonel Cantu and Mario Salazar are the candidates.
Another local race that is contested is the one for State Representative where Tara Rios Ybarra, the incumbent is challenged by J.M. Lozano. Ybarra is from South Padre Island and Lozano is from Kingsville.
And for District Judge 197th Judicial District, the incumbent Migdalia Lopez is opposed by former Willacy D.A. Juan Guerra.
Early voting ends on Friday, March 26.
