Perry wins without a runoff over Hutchison

Republican Texas Governor Rick Perry has won his party's nomination without a runoff. At 2 a.m. today, with 97.63% of the votes counted, Perry led with 748,525 votes. Kay Bailey Hutchison was second with 445,394 votes and Debra Medina had 272,424 votes. Perry had 51.08% percent of the votes cast, thus avoiding a runoff with Hutchison. A total of 1,468,689 votes were cast by Republicans , 11.27 percent of Texas 13 million voters.
