Tara Rios-Ybarra carried Cameron and Willacy Counties but was beaten badly in Brooks, Jim Hogg and Kleburg counties. In Willacy Rios-Ybarra had 1,947 votes to 1,232 for J. M. Lozano. But the total votes district wide in the six counties she serves were a different story.

Lozano wound up with 8,855 votes to Rios- Ybarra 6,708 votes, so for the first time in many years District 43 will be represented by a man.
