White is the Democrat nominee for governor

Democrat Bill White, the former mayor of Houston, led the primary race for governor with 513,548 votes with 99.53% of the votes counted. White had 76.20 percent of the votes cast. Second place went to Farouk Shami with 85,560 votes. There were a total of seven candidates. A total of 673,878 votes were cast by Democrats, 5.17 percent of Texas 13 million voters.
