Lyford meeting continued.....
LYFORD CITY HALL to get $100,000 facelift-During the next few months city hall will be getting a new look. Some rooms will be expanded and the floor and airconditioning will be replaced. IDEA Group of McAllen will do the construction with grant funds arranged by Carlos Mondragon.
IN OTHER BUSINESS:
Commissioners discussed setting an agenda policy that would require any item for the agenda to be submitted in writing by the person asking for it.
Commissioner Mendoza objected, saying, "This takes the power from the commissioners and gives it to the mayor and the city secretary. I'd like to table this, there are some good things in it and some I don't like."
The mayor responded, "Temporarily, I'm asking you to put anything you want in writing and if there is a mistake it is your mistake and not someone elses."
The item was tabled on a vote by commissioners.
Commissioners decided to paint "Welcome to Lyford" on one side of the water tank facing the expressway and a bulldog logo on the other with dark green lettering.
The city will rent a lift to use to repair the light ballasts at the city pavilion.
A final payment of $4,812 was authorized for the play ground equipment.
A discussion of a proposed amendment to the Curfew ordin-ance was held and the matter was tabled for consideration. The curfew would affect youth below the age of 17.
City employees will be allowed a "floating" holiday of choice in addition to the regular schedule. The date must meet supervisors approval.
Police Chief Campbell reported that sheriff's deputies have arrested an individual who may be responsbile for 28 incidents including 19 signs defaced by graffiti. He is charged with three felonies and has signed a confession. The individual is also responsible for vandalism at the schools, Campbell said.
Two applications for police patrolman have been received as a result of the advertising in the Chronicle/News.
Finally, a rabies clinic will be held in Lyford on March 27 to innoculate dogs and cats and to issue licenses to pets.
