Randy Sewell, 28, of 13th and Rodriguez, was stabbled twice, once in the chest and once in the side at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, according to police investigator Andy Maldonado.

Martin Mendoza, Jr., 18 was at Sewell's house when gang members Antonio "Toker" Guerrero, 29, and Rogelio Cruz, Jr.,l8, drove past. Police say Cruz flagged the car down and the four men began fighting.

Sewell was stabbed by Guerrero, police believe, and was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center by ambulance for treatment. Also transported was a juvenile girl who was hit over the head with a beer bottle by Cruz.

Guerrero cut off the tip of one finger with his own knife when he closed it, police say.

On January 12, Guerrero was shot in the back on North 5th Street from a passing car when he left his girl friend’s house in the 400 block of West Durham. Charged with that shooting was Alfredo Guadalupe Gonzales, 26, the ex husband of the woman.

In the lastest incident all of the participants were intoxicated, police say.

Why the fight?

"It was one of those stupid gang things. Martin Mendoza, Jr. belongs to the "My Block" gang and Antonio Guerrero is in the "Northside Locos" gang and that's all it takes," said investigator Maldonado.

Mendoza, Cruz and Guerrero was arrested Monday and are in Willacy Count Jail charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Mendoza brandished a fire arm but did not use it, Maldonado said. Sewell is said to be recovering at home.
