Recount results mean Guerra & Gonzales will face off in County Judge showdown

Annette Hinojosa increased her vote totals by 3 and still fell short of John Gonzales for second place in the county judge recount Monday, by 2 votes.

Final totals show Aurelio "Keter" Guerra with 802 votes John F. Gonzales, Jr. with 712 votes, Hinojosa with 710 votes, Eloy Castaneda with 581 votes and Emilio "Jr." Vera with 550 votes.

The recount showed that Guerra gained 6 votes, Eloy Castaneda gained 2 votes, Vera gained 4 votes, Hinojosa gained 3 and Gonzales vote stayed the same as on election day.

The first day of voting in the Runoff Election will be April 5 and the last day for early voting will be April 9. Election Day for the Primary Runoff Elections is April 13.

Besides the county judge race Willacy County voters will choose a County Commissioner in Pct. 4 to replace Keter Guerra. The two candidates who survived the primary election are Dora Perez who got 383 votes and Oscar Garcia, Jr., who had 285 votes.

Another contested runoff is between Yesenia Rosas who had 166 votes and Apolinar "Polo" Gracida with 156 votes for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1.
