2010 GRAND CHAMPION STEER of the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show was exhibited by 11-year-old Morgan Thomas of Raymondville. The steer sold for $20,000 on the last day of the show. Morgan was accompanied to the show by her twin sisters, Logan and Lauren, 8. The girls showed heifers and steers, winning blue ribbons, reserve and breed champion awards. The money will be split three ways and will go into the girls’ college fund. “Oso” the grand champion steer is a Charolais bred from a bull called "Hoobear". Morgan, a Myra Green Middle School student, plans to major in animal science and to become a veterinarian. She and her sisters live on the Thomas Ranch north of Raymondville. "I'm very happy, its exciting," she said after winning the event. "It feels good, like our work has been worth it," said her father, Mitch Thomas. Her mom, Linda, agrees saying Morgan and her sisters spend a lot of time tending to the animals, as much as three hours a day.
