Early voting ends Friday

Tuesday is election day in Willacy County.

By this time next week we will have a new county judge, a new Pct. 4 County Commissioner and a new justice of the Peace in Pct. 1. Early voting ends Friday. So far it has been brisk but because there is only one week to vote early during the runoff, compared to two weeks during the primary, turnout will be down.

During the primary when there was a full slate of candidates, 3,483 of the county's 11,026 registered voters turned out. That's just 31.59 percent -- a poor turnout indeed.

For the runoff it is unlikely that more than half that number will take the trouble to vote.

Candidates for county judge are: John F. Gonzales and Aurelio "Keter" Guerra., Jr.

Pct. 4 Commissioner candidates are: Oscar Garcia, Jr. and Dora Perez.

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace candidates are: Yesenia Rosas and

Apolinar "Polo" Gracida, Jr.
