Lyford voters to elect commissioners on Saturday
Voters in many Texas cities, including Lyford, will go to the polls on Saturday, May 8 to elect city officials.
Raymondville will not have a city election this year.
Voting will take place in Lyford from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., according to city Secretary Lydia Moreno.
Through Monday 139 voters had cast their ballots with Tuesday being the last day of early voting.
Moreno said she expects somewhere near 350 voters to turn out if past elections are an indicator. The city has not had as many as 500 votes in recent years.
Seven candidates are competing for three commissioners seats in the at-large election which will have no run-off. The top three vote getters will be elected and take office at thenext regular meeting.
Candidates are: Melissa Marie Rodriguez, a vocational nurse; Antonio Chavez, an accountant and incumbent commissioner; Hector Blanco, a sales merchandiser; Ramon Perez, Jr., a bus driver; Ramon Moya, a shop foreman for the Harlingen CISD; David Clarida, a former mayor and commissioner and Ramiro Santillana.
