Fort Worth police officer charged with pot possession

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A Fort Worth police officer has been charged with marijuana possession after he was allegedly seen smoking the drug in his patrol car.

Police Chief Jeff Halstead announced the charge and resignation of Officer Wesley D. Lamb at a Wednesday news conference. Halstead also said he'll reorganize the department to increase field supervision of officers.

Halstead says the investigation began in the wake of reports that Lamb was seen smoking marijuana on duty, in uniform, in his patrol car. An arrest affidavit says an undercover officer turned over to Lamb 86 grams of marijuana he said he had found. Police searches later found the drug in Lamb’s home and sportutility vehicle, and Halstead says Lamb has admitted to smoking marijuana on duty.

Lamb is free on $7,500 bond. Jail records showed no attorney.
