Former postal worker sentenced for theft

Marissa Alviso Marissa Alviso The Willacy County and District Attorney’s Office announced today that Marissa Alviso, 20, of Lasara, TX, was found guilty of theft in County Court and sentenced to 6 months County Jail probated for 20 months for stealing a total of $130.00 from the mail while employed as a U.S. Post Office employee. Alviso must also pay full restitution, $400.00 fine, court costs, probation fees, write a letter of apology to the victim, complete 80 hours of community service, and comply with the standard conditions of probation.

The defendant was prosecuted after an investigation was completed by the United States Postal Service of Inspector General. The Federal agency requested the Willacy County and District Attorney’s Office to prosecute the case. The punishment range for misdemeanor theft ranges from probation to confinement for 180 days in the County Jail and an optional fine not to exceed $2,000.

The Willacy County and District Attorney’s Office will continue to cooperate and assist Federal Law Enforcement Agencies in the prosecution of crimes in Willacy County and would like to thank the U.S. Postal Service Special Agent Jason Cassady for his participation on this case. The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Bernard W. Ammerman and First Assistant District Attorney Scott Green-baum.
