Saenz sentenced to 9 years for cocaine possession

The Willacy County and District Attorney’s Office announced today that Oscar Saenz, 37, of Raymondville, TX, was found guilty in the 197th District Court and was sentenced to 9 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division for possession of a controlled substance. The punishment range for possession of a controlled substance is from probation to confinement from 2 to 20 years and an optional fine not to exceed $10,000.
On August 18, 2008, the Willacy County Sheriff ’s Office responded to the 300 block of East Ledesma in Raymondville, to a domestic violence disturbance in progress. When the deputy arrived on scene, he noticed the defendant was sweating profusely and his pupils were dilated. The deputy noticed the defendant hiding a plastic baggie with a white powdery substance in his hand. The substance was later tested by the DPS crime lab and determined to be 12.49 grams of cocaine. The defendant was indicted on March 19, 2009.
The Willacy County and District Attorney’s Office will aggressively prosecute crimes involving controlled substances and would like to thank the Willacy County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Guillermo Salinas, Jr. and Deputy Jose Salazar for their participation on this case.
The cases were prosecuted by District Attorney Bernard W. Ammerman and First Assistant District Attorney Scott Greenbaum.
