Charles Beasley dies in Houston

Charles Beasley Charles Beasley A good Willacy County man is gone. Charles Beasley, 90, died in Houston this week. He was successful in many different endeavors and a complete list of his accomplishments may be found in his obituary on Page 11.

I knew Charles for 35 years although I can't say I knew him well. He used to come into the Chronicle/News office to place advertising for his real estate business.

Sometimes we would chat and one thing I always noticed about Charles was his unfailing good humor. He was always friendly, and jolly. He had many friends and was well liked and respected.

Charles just looked like a Texan. If you happened to run into him in Canada, I believe you would say to yourself, "There goes a Texan." He was a big man and he wore his western hat every day. He just looked like a cowboy.

Charles was also a big "Aggie".

I used to run into him at the post office and I would always ask, "Are the Aggies gonna have a football team this year?"

"Yeah, good enough to beat you T-Sips" , he would answer without skipping a beat.

In the time to come I will miss those encounters with Charles, a good man and a good Aggie.
