Police issue warrant for suspect in stolen benches case

Police stopped a suspect and found several concrete benches in his truck, the same benches reported stolen from the Raymondville Memorial Cemetery recently.

Detective David Robles said three benches were confiscated and returned to their owners. The suspect planned to sell the benches he took from the cemetery, Robles believes.

A warrant has been issued for the suspect’s arrrest on theft charges.

Despite the activities of a newly formed Neighborhood Watch organization burglaries and thefts from homes continue to be a problem. Most popular items taken include chain saws, lawn mowers, weed eaters, and fishing gear, Robles said.

Three police officers are on patrol at night as well as the Neighborhood Watch members.

"Someone knows who is committing these crimes and they need come forward and tell police," Robles said.
