Training Seminars

THE KLEBERG AND KENEDY COUNTIES DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE has continued its four year series of free seminars for local law enforcement with a legislative update class given at Texas A&M Kingsville on Friday, May 14, 2010. 42 Officers attended this 4 hour class. This course is a recent requirment by the State of Texas for all peace officers and covers the changes in the law from the last legislative session.

These new Training Seminars are paid for out of the District Attorney’s Asset Forfeiture Funds with no tax generated funds used. Normally, such training is conducted out of the county and the cost to the taxpayer is significant. To date, 124 officers have attended the legislative update seminars and 97 attended an 8 hour training for the investigation and prosecution of intoxication offenses, for a total of 1272 free hours of training since the program started in September 2009. District Attorney John Hubert, who began this series of seminars stated, “By having these seminars locally, we don’t have the expenses of transportation and hotel rooms for our officers when they go out of town. These local courses also allow us to keep our officers local in case of an emergency. Finally, it helps them to network and make contacts here locally to help solve crimes.” Hubert further stated, “South Texas deserves the best. These seminars help to preserve the professionalism of our local law enforcement.”
