Artist of the Month
THE WILLACY REGULATORS recently won the championship of the Lower Valley 1st All Star Invitational (14U Pony Division) at Arroyo Park in Harlingen. The team from Raymondville and San Perlita, played teams from Mercedes, La Villa, Los Fresnos, and Port Isabel and won with a 3-0 record. Vivian Martin of Edinburg is Willacy County Art League’s “Artist of the Month.”
Vivian has lived in the Valley all her life and been an avid artist for many years. She works in pastel, watercolor and acrylics along with giving mosaic workshops.
Being an accomplished portrait painter, she has appreciated studying under Theda Rhea (nationally known portrait artist from Coleman, TX). Other artist workshops she has participated include Terry Smith, Guy Morrow, Emilio Abugarade, Marge Ford and Charles Baugh. She said that she is always open to new techniques. The artists she most admires are Wende Caporale, Bill Hosner and Theda Rhea.

Vivian has been very active in the valley art scene. She had a 2002 exhibition, “Three Man Show,” at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, placed 3rd in Pastel at the 2000 and 2001 Brownsville International show, 3 honorable mentions at the 2002 Brownsville International Show, 3rd in pastel in 2001 RioFest, 2nd in pastel at 2002 RioFest, 3rd in pastel at 2003 Spring Classic Art Show in Pharr, 1st in pastel at 2007 Pharr Spring Classic and a cash award at juried art show sponsored by the Fine Art League of Coleman County.
Vivian Martin is Artist of the Month
As well as being a member of WCAL, she is also a member of the Harlingen Art Forum.
With her vivacious personality and gorgeous red hair, Vivian has added a spark of delight to the WCAL for the past 5 years.
She said, “The best thing about being a member of WCAL is the friendships I have made.”
