Man charged with robbery of Stripes and Lyford Superette stores

Police investigator Andy Maldonado told the Chronicle/ News Tuesday that a suspect in the robbery of the Stripes store at 10th and Hidalgo Ave. has been arrested.

Ruben Cisneros, 23, of 912 W. Chihuahua was recently released from state prison where he was serving a sentence for robbery.

According to Det. Maldonado, Cisneros entered the Stripes store at about 4 p.m. July 18, demanded money from the clerk and threatened to kill her.

Cisneros fled the store with $20 and two packs of Marlboro red cigarettes. Later the same evening Cisneros repeated his act at the Lyford Superette.

Lyford Police Chief Paul Campbell, said Cisneros and two juveniles, ages 14 and 16, entered the Superette and robbed the clerk of about $100, cigarettes and two 18-packs of beer.

"What got them was the store cameras," said the chief, that produced clearly recognizable images of the robbers.

Robbery is a second degree felony punishable by two-totwenty years in prison, according to Maldonado. Because Cisneros has a criminal record, his sentence may be enhanced if he is convicted in these two cases.
