Parent files UIL complaint against Coach Leal
A Raymondville High School parent has hired an attorney to file a UIL complaint against popular head football coach and athletic director Alex Leal.
Eddie Orozco Sr. alleges that Coach Leal refused to sign off on his son's plans to transfer to Rio Hondo High School where he intends to play football.
In a letter dated July 26, 2010 Harlingen attorney Richard R. Rodriguez wrote, "I represent the Orozco family. The family would like to file a formal grievance against Coach Leal and the Raymondville ISD football program for violating provisions of the UIL constitution governing athletics."
His letter to the UIL requests an investigation and states that the Orozco family has evidence supporting violations that govern recruiting and academic policies.
Orozco claims that Coach Leal illegally recruited his son to keep him in Raymondville High School. He says he has a tape recording in which Coach Leal said he has attempted to solicit business for the company Orozco Sr. works for, in order that he may prosper.
Orozco also claims that Coach Leal altered Eddie Orozco’s class schedule to please his father. That he tinkered with class schedules to the extent that class transfers were made in mid-semester and full credit was given to the student.
Orozco Sr. accuses Coach Leal of falsifying reports and pressuring teachers to modify grades.
Eddie Orozco Jr. is a junior running back and defensive end and his father lives in Rio Hondo.
