THE NEW MYRA GREEN MIDDLE SCHOOL sits on approximately 23.5 acres north of Burnet Stadium and consists of approximately 100,000 square feet. The parents and grandparents of many Myra Green students were in the audience when the new facilty was dedicated this week.

The new 100,000 sq. ft. middle school has 480 students in grades 6-8 but its 33 classrooms have the capacity to handle up to 550 students and there is plenty of room for growth on 23 1/2 acres just south of Burnett Football Stadium.

Principal Sabrina Franco and Superintendent Johnny Pineda are equally proud of the new facility. For the first time students will be cooled with central airconditioning and the noisy window units have been left behind in the 50-year old building with the leaky roof.

Covered walkways will protect students from rain, heat and cold as they travel from class to class and interactive boards, or smart boards take the place of old fashioned blackboards in classrooms at the new school.

Two band halls, three computer labs, and five science labs are included in the new $14.8 million school.

The new building was made possible by passage of a $9.8 million bond issue in 2007, after a bond election in 2006 failed by two votes. In 2004, $2.2 million held for the begining of construction was diverted by the school board to build a new football stadium instead.

The Raymondville ISD has a modern set of campuses with an almost new high school, a new middle school and two elementary schools that are less than 20 years old.
